Former Generations: The Legacy actor JT Medupe, pictured, survived a horrific car crash in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man who played Jonathan in the SABC1 soapie rolled his car at the entrance of Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg.
Photos seen by Sowetan show that his Mini Cooper flipped over with its top down. The air-bags imploded and one of the wheels was ripped off the car.
Medupe, however, is not in the pictures as he was receiving medical attention. He has since confirmed that he was involved in the accident.
A passer-by, who is in the film industry, said: “He rolled the car close to the gate of the cemetery. When I passed there shortly after the accident, I saw paramedics take him into an ambulance around 3am. There was no other car close by, his Mini Cooper was the only damaged vehicle.”
Medupe is believed to live in the area.
Generations: The Legacy executive producer Mfundi Vundla said he was “sorry to hear this as JT was one of our most valued actors”.
Speaking through Generations publicist Gaaratwe Mokhethi, Medupe said “it was just a minor bump” and that he was “okay”.
He said he preferred not to talk about the ordeal.
Johannesburg metro police spokeswoman Edna Mamonyane confirmed the accident and added: “It happened in front of Westpark Cemetery. We can confirm that just one motor vehicle was in the accident.
“We got a call at 3.11am. No one was arrested for being under the influence. Our records reflect damages to the vehicle and no injuries.”
