Crime Week: DA Leader Mmusi Maimane’s weekly diary for his Kasi-to-Kasi Tour

This week, Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader, Mmusi Maimane, will continue his Kasi-to-Kasi Tour across the country sharing the DA’s plan to completely overhaul the South African Police Service (SAPS) – curbing corruption, hiring people with a passion for policing, and training and equipping police officers. Our plan will see the establishment of an honest and professional police service that protects South Africans.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 02 April 2019, Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader, Mmusi Maimane, will take his tour to the City of Cape Town, meeting with the family of a young child who was the latest victim of gang-related crime on the Cape Flats. Maimane will then address a street meeting outside the home of the family, unpacking the DA’s plan for the province and the country. Maimane will be joined by DA Western Cape Premier Candidate Alan Winde, Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Crime, John Steenhuisen and Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Women, Nomafrench Mbombo.

On Wednesday, 03 April 2019, Maimane together with DA Gauteng Premier Candidate, Solly Msimanga, and Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Crime, John Steenhuisen, will visit the Dobsonville Police Station, one of the most understaffed police stations in the country. The station has only 1 police officer to every 1121 residents – which is 5 times the recommended ratio. Maimane will address a street meeting outside the police station sharing the DA’s plans to address such understaffing and under-resourcing that threatens the safety of South Africans.

On Thursday, 04 April 2019, Maimane alongside DA Limpopo Premier Candidate Jacques Smalle, and Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Crime, John Steenhuisen will lead a march to the Limpopo Premier’s Office to hand over a memorandum demanding the implementation of a rural safety plan in the province.

On Friday, 05 April 2019, Maimane alongside DA Gauteng Premier Candidate, Solly Msimanga and Team One South Africa Spokesperson on Crime, John Steenhuisen will give an update on the work done by the DA-led City of Johannesburg through the Operation Buya Mthetho programme to clamp down crime. Maimane will meet and greet metro police officers at the JMPD headquarters .
