DA urges MEC Ndou to probe reasons behind the death of a toddler in Tzaneen

Today, the DA has visited the family of an 18 months old toddler who died whilst trapped in an open borehole, to pass our deepest condolences and to pay our respect during this very difficult time.

It was alleged that the toddler was trapped in the borehole since Saturday before he was rescued in the wee hours of this morning.

The DA is certain that there are plenty of these uncovered borehole pits, not only in Mopani municipality but also across the country. These open boreholes are hazardous and fatal as this tragic incident now illustrated.

The DA will engage with the family further about any kind of assistance that they might need to arrange a proper send-off for this toddler.

The DA will submit written questions to the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Jerry Ndou to get clarity around all open and unused boreholes provincially and what measures are in place to keep the community and animals safe from these pits.

The DA will, pending the outcome of the questions decide on a way forward as it is evident that there was clearly negligence on the side of the ANC government in Limpopo.
