FIVE people have been arrested in connection with the shocking death of six miners who were trapped in a petrol bombed bus in Driekop near Burgersfort.
The suspects will appear in the Mecklenburg Magistrate Court on Thursday, on charges of six counts of murder, malicious damage to property and attempted murder.
Six mine workers were burnt beyond recognition and 28 others injured after the bus they were travelling in was petrol bombed.
It is alleged the bomb was thrown at the bus as they were travelling to work.
“The bus immediately caught fire, instantly killing six people on board and injuring several others,” police spokesperson Colonel Motlafela Mojapelo said.
Mojapelo said the workers were from Modikwa Platinum Mine.
According to Mojapelo, on their arrival the bus had already burned to ashes with six victims inside.
He confirmed that other passengers escaped through windows, and suffered burn wounds and were taken to hospital.
