A group of armed thugs hit a cash van in Motetema, outside Groblersdal, Limpopo on Monday evening.

Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngeope said it is alleged that two G4 Security Guards were travelling along Ramogwera road when they were attacked by people in two cars.

“When they approached a speed hump,occupants of a single cap white Ford ranger and a silver X-Trail started shooting at the Security vehicle.

During the process the driver got injured on the leg and this caused the vehicle to swerv off the road as the driver was losing control.

It came to a halt on the side of the road.

He said this gang of about 11 suspects, armed with rifles, then pounced on the vehicle and tried to open it.

When the vehicle couldn’t open, they instructed the victims to lie down and disarmed them of their service pistols.

Ngoepe said the thugs then bombed the vehicle with explosives and managed to take undisclosed amount of money before they fled the scene.

Police were notified and reacted swiftly to the scene which led to the arrest of one suspect in his 20’s.

They also recovered undisclosed amount of cash.

The arrested suspect will appear before Motetema Magistrate’s Court soon on various charges including armed robbery.
