ARMED thugs in a white Mercedes-Benz and an Audi A4 chased a cash-in-transit van for more than a kilometre on Monday before forcing it to a standstill.
According to cops in Hammanskraal, Tshwane, the thugs attacked the vehicle in Carousel View.
Police spokesman Constable Herman Moremi said an undisclosed amount of money was taken and the driver of the cash van sustained minor injuries.
“The suspects fled the scene with bags and cases of cash,” he said.
He said the robbers started shooting at the van until the driver lost control and the vehicle came to a stop at the side of the road.
“The suspects took firearms from the security guards and blew up the vehicle with explosives,” he said.
When the cops arrived at the scene they found more than 24 bullet cases.
Moremi said they have opened a case of armed robbery for further investigation.
On 30 December, Atteridgeville cops also reported a cash-in-transit robbery. No one has been arrested for either heist.
“We appeal to the public if they have information regarding the suspects to contact the Hammanskraal police,” Moremi said.
He said the public should not try to approach or confront the suspects as they are dangerous.
