African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu says the party’s five MPs who boycotted a parliamentary committee meeting because it was chaired by Makhosi Khoza, are not off the hook.
The ANC has removed Khoza as the chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration.
The five ANC committee members, who boycotted a meeting chaired by Khoza on Tuesday, first wrote to Mthembu saying they objected to Khoza’s leadership following her support for the recent motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
Mthembu says, “The entire ANC component of the portfolio committee will be reconfigured to strengthen the committee and over and above that, the ANC Chief Whip maintains that the decisions to boycott the committee meeting remains an ill-advised and remains one that was ill-advised and out of line and the matter has been referred to the disciplinary committee of caucus and that process is already underway. So that matter is a separate matter where those members of parliament will still undergo a disciplinary process for having boycotted the work of parliament.”
